Long Live The Mr. Men.

The Mr. Men are well known by kids all around the world and they have long been established as a defining moment in children’s literature. Even most adults can tell you exactly what Mr. Mean, Mr. Messy or Mr. Greedy look like. Since their creation in 1971, the Mr. Men books have become enormously popular and children still love the stories just as much today.
There is a truly magical element to these peculiar characters. When Roger Hargreaves first came up with the idea he could never have known just how well it would do. Along with Dr. Seuss, Beatrix Potter and Enid Blyton, he managed to tap into something incredibly special.
Personally, Mr. Tickle was always my favourite character. I couldn’t even tell you why; it was just because he had such ridiculously long arms and was bright orange, I suppose. And if I were to name a second favourite then it would have to be Mr. Bump. Watching him walk into a lamppost and then lie on his back with his feet kicking in the air is still something I find very amusing!
There are some lovely children’s books out there and The Mr. Men are still one of the very best. And it isn’t just about enjoying them as a child either. We all love to think back to these stories when we are all grown up and boring. But the best thing happens when you have children of your own. You are suddenly able to introduce them to the same characters and tales which you enjoyed so much.
Along with such classics as ‘Meg and Mog’, ‘Where the Wild Things’ are and ‘The Cat in the Hat’, the Mr. Men are absolute classics. These books are timeless and will continue to be loved for many years to come.
